Portrait Artist Statement
The person I took a picture of is my friend Teresa C who was in the panda hat. She’s my best friend and I kind of have strong feelings for her and I think she does too. I always seem to find myself hanging out with her lately going on fun adventures through the woods, near the huron river, parks, downtown, etc.
The environment I wanted to go for for my portrait was a woodsy area filled with green vegetation since the outfit for Teresa was based off an animal or, the panda in this case. Usually pandas have a more relaxed or lazy attitude but are still cute even though they have those characteristics, which I tried to interpret through my portrait.
The challenges I had with this portrait was the lighting because the sun was sometimes out or not because it was sort of a cloudy day that day. Some triumphs I did was the framing because the green ferns surrounds the subject giving the subject a focal point of interest for the viewers eye to see. I also feel like the overall picture represents “getting away from reality and living in a fictional world,” which I was trying to go for because I really like the book “Where The Wild Things Are.”
